Your Guide to the LA River in the Form of A Playable Card Deck

About the Deck

The Play the LA River card deck offers 56 sites to discover—52 places on the river plus 4 wild card sites that are close by & river-related. It’s organized into 4 geographical suits—Valley, Glendale Narrows, Downtown & South—& together, the cards show you the mighty 51-mile LA River from headwaters to mouth.

Each site’s card has a map & an approximate street address or intersection you can plug into your nav. It also tells you a little about why the site is worth visiting.

Some sites are a hop-skip-jump from their neighbors; others are a gallop. The LA River does not have an exact street address, so finding your way—& discovering new places to play—is part of the game!

The PLAY! “dashboard” includes site feature icons & a “gritty-to-green” scale to help you know what to expect when you get to the site. The dashboard also offers you a few starter ideas for how to play there & then share your experiences on social media using #playthelariver.
